Using FHIR Station’s intuitive interface, you can for each project precisely define which data to share, from which source, and for which application. This approach ensures you unlock only the strictly necessary information, without duplicating data.

Query data in any FHIR data repository, whether a FHIR Box from Amaron or a FHIR server from another vendor such as Microsoft, InterSystems, Firely, Google, etc.

Federated queries

Simultaneously query sources of the same type (e.g., different EHRs) or diverse sources (e.g. EHR, HIS, LIS, etc.), even across a vast geographical area. The results of these searches are delivered in a consolidated way.
Privacy & security by design

Use Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC), to configure for each of your projects which data consumer gets access to which information sources. Data can be filtered down to the attribute level.

Create specific authorisation flows in accordance with the OAuth 2.0 industry standard.
De-identification & pseudonymisation

Remove patient identifiers from the data you share, if necessary. If re-identification must be possible afterwards, link the data to a unique code (pseudonym). Separate keys for each project ensure that patients appearing in multiple projects cannot be linked to the same identity.
Central audit log

Identify who accessed patient information for all incoming and outgoing data streams, including when and in what way, in accordance with the IHE Audit Trail and Node Authentication (ATNA) profile.
Governance

Outline the governance process for each project. Automate and document this process and make it enforceable:
- How is the approval flow organised? Who is involved?
- What data will be shared, with which party, and for how long?
- What security measures will be applied when disclosing data?
- How will changes be dealt with during the course of the process?

Use case

A hospital has a central data source (FHIR Repository) containing all patient data. A mobile app used by the cardiology department requires patient data to be unlocked from this data source. To respect patient privacy, the hospital only wants to share data from patients admitted to the cardiology department. All this is possible with the FHIR Station:

The FHIR Station is the central point of contact to unlock patient data from the central data source. The access rules are established to grant access only to a well-defined set of relevant data.
Interactions with the FHIR Station follow the latest industry standards for optimal patient data security.
The FHIR Station also ensures that every communication flow can be accurately traced. This allows the hospital to document and demonstrate each interaction with patient data.

Use Case // CoZo SHIFT project

FHIR: HL7’s most recent standard framework

The traditional standards for data exchange in healthcare (including HL7 and DICOM) are still highly relevant today. But in addition, there is the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard, which is gaining ground at lightning speed.

HL7® FHIR® is much more flexible than its HL7 predecessors, and is ideal for all types of unambiguous communication in healthcare. Furthermore, the use of existing, easy-to-access web technology (REST) has led to plenty of opportunities, particularly in mobile apps and other internet applications for patients and healthcare providers, whether in the hospital, at home or in the field.
