In my previous roles—12 years as a data science researcher and lecturer in software development at Ghent University and 4 years as development lead at Skyline Communications—I acquired broad knowledge of software development best practices. I now apply that knowledge at Amaron to further expand our software portfolio, with a client-centric focus and an emphasis on quality.

I worked for 19 years at an international healthcare player, where I had great opportunities and gained extensive experience across support, testing and validation, product management in R&D, and more. Working for a larger company certainly has advantages, but after all those years, I missed working at a smaller firm with short lines of communication, where you’re close to the customer and can make a difference.

I had just graduated as an industrial engineer in electronics/ICT when a headhunter informed me that Amaron was looking for an integration consultant. At first, I hesitated because I wanted to work with hardware, which wasn’t an option at Amaron. However, I quickly noticed the great atmosphere. I also wanted to work for a smaller company where everyone knows everyone. That ultimately won me over.
I started just over a year ago and haven’t regretted it for a moment. The job is very diverse, and you’re given a lot of responsibility right away. After a month, I was already handling client tasks. Being thrown into the deep end so quickly was challenging, but I could always rely on my experienced colleagues for help with questions or problems. It was a fantastic learning experience!
I also appreciate the relaxed working atmosphere. At lunchtime, we all eat together at the long table, and we can play a quiet game of pool or ping-pong. Plus, how many people can say they played ‘rugby’ in an Italian pool with their bosses and all their colleagues?
